City on a grain of salt. Tuzla means a place of salt and it lays on top of the salt lake. It is suspected it has been there for around 7000 years as one of the oldest places in Europe.

Tile on tile = art

This sculpture reminds me for some reason of gracious dancers. What about you?

Salt - so

This is an ancient earthenware for making salt. Tuzla's salt is one of the best in the world! Trust me on this one! (Of course I'm biased). =)

Fancy a chain of okra?

Do you like okra? I do. If it's done properly it can be very delicious.
Unlike in other countries in Bosnia okra gets collected while small, than put on a string and hang out to dry up.
It's been sold like this on our markets.

Fico - Fiat 500

Fico was very popular in my country in the last 40-50 years and now Fiat made a new one, looking really funky.
Which one do you prefer? This one or this one?

Hope you have a great and sunny week ahead...

Holi - Hindu Festival of Colors

'Holi - the festival of colours - is undoubtedly the most fun-filled and boisterous of Hindu festival. It's an occasion that brings in unadulterated joy and mirth, fun and play, music and dance, and, of course, lots of bright colours!'

It was such fun, never seen anything like it. We enjoyed it thoroughly, also that night - morning we watched the full moon total eclipse at 4 o'clock in the morning...

How beautiful thy feet with pretty sandals

My new flip flops bruised my precious feet and after a day spent on the beach on my way back to hotel I was passing by these shoe makers and had to have one pair of sandals made for me. I can assure you they're so 'comfortable', soft and pretty.
Very friendly people, they offered us a cup of tea while waiting.

Lucky Elephant and more...

Hiiiiiiiiiia lovely people,

I see you've been very well taken care of in the last two weeks (well a bit more) by Lilly. Since she didn't behave badly ;), I will be more than happy if she continues to post on TDP.

Well I feel very restless now that I'm back, full of positive energy and I have to report that I enjoyed my India travels so much I wish I could have stayed longer in the nice and a very hot Calangute.
I've met so many nice people, travelled up and down Goa and Karnataka, ate the most delicious food, had too many freshly squeezed juices, enjoyed Arabian sea... saw a few dolphins, fed monkeys and rode an elephant... People are very nice and hospitable and despite extreme poverty they're still smiling... lot's to learn from...
Well I wouldn't be me if I didn't break a few house rules along the way and this time I will not make an exception and will try to make a feast for your eyes because I took too many great photos not to share them with you. So my dear friends hope you don't mind?! And if you do, please bare with me 'till I get back to my old self...

Ham, real elephant for you =)

Happy Birthday Dad!

It's my last post - let's have a party!

Hello everybody!
This is my last post. Jazzy is back and she will be entertaining you from now on. Hope you enjoyed my posts. I won't be going too far - I'll still come and visit your DPs. They are all wonderful. It's been a pleasure sharing the stories and pictures with you. What a lovely bunch you are! Thank you all for coming and leaving your kind comments.
What do you know, Jazzy might allow me to come back and so we'll meet again when she goes on one of her globe trotting holidays.
So, let's have a party and celebrate. Look, this restaurant is empty! It is waiting for us to come, dance, drink and be merry.
Lots of love and sunshine (and snow in Finland, Mimmu-I'm so jealous!!).

Birdhouse

This tree and the birdhouse are in the front yard of our country house. Our neighbour made it for us. Our parents come out on the terrace in the morning in the summer months, drink coffee and watch the mother bird bring food in for her young ones. Nature is amazing, don't you think?
Enjoy the wonderful nature in your part of the world today.

The light is on!

It might look pretty but I think it's a bit early for the light when the sky is still blue. Don't you think?

A very old building looking new and colourful

Jazzy showed you this building in our of her previous posts. It is the entrance of an old Islamic religious school. Unfortunately, over the years, the rest of building has been destroyed but the entrance is still there.
Have a good Sunday.

Laundry day

The weekend is here! Yippee! Saturday is usually a day for going out, meeting people, going to the market. And Sunday, if you don't have anything exciting to do is left for doing things around the house, preparing for the week ahead and for doing the laundry. Here are some washing powders to chose from. I've got lots to do this weekend and lots of washing in the basket.
Have a great weekend!

Bookworm

In the last few years you'll find that more and more books are being sold outside on the streets by the small privately owned shops rather than big chain stores. You can find everything and anything on these stalls. I even found books from my childhood, published years ago. The book at the bottom in kids section is "The Jungle Book". I love it, but my favourite still has to be "The Little Prince" by Antoine De Saint-Exupery.
Do you like reading? What's your favourite book?

Two nosy goats - what are they looking for?

This picture was taken recently just outside Tuzla. It was quite cold and it didn't look like the spring was coming any time soon.
I reckon these goats were looking for food. What do you think?
Thank you all for stopping by and keep warm and well fed.

Place your adverts here

I am not sure how old this building is, but my guess is, at least over 50 years. The time has done its job on it and it is now an old ruin. It looks like the mayor still doesn't have any plans for refurbishing it. These days, people use this door to put their advertisements on. On one hand, I don't like the fact that such an old, and in my opinion pretty building is used for this but on the other, I think, well why not use it for something useful, like advertising a concert or a business?!

We have an odd tradition of posting obituaries around the town. People know each other pretty well in Tuzla so posting 'public obituaries' is a useful tool of sharing the news of who has departed. When I took this picture there weren't any obituaries, just an advertisement for a radio station and political party posters. Do you have an odd tradition in your part of the world?

A little bit of New York in Tuzla

You won't find many buildings like this one in Tuzla. In fact, I think this is the only one. It sits next to newly built apartment blocks and oddly enough it fits right in. It is a business building with lots of offices inside so nothing exciting happens here.

Thanks to everybody for stopping by. Owen, I can't access your page, so send me the link please. I do appreciate you visiting and your comments.

This is the most uninspiring post yet. Any uninspiring, derelict houses in your neighborhood?

A drink of my and your youth

I love this drink - COCKTA (pronounced KOKTA). It used to be advertised as "a drink of my and your youth". It is similar to coca cola with a hint of licorice taste. Everybody loves it, especially kids. This advert took me back to my childhood.
What reminds you of the good old days?

Delicious pastry

Yummy!!! This is my favourite pastry. The dough is really soft and this white stuff is melted salt. They are best when they are hot, but even cold, you can't resist them. Some people eat them with yogurt. I like them on their own, without anything, just as they are. They are called "slanci" (pronounced slantzi), and they are quite cheap.
What do you prefer, savoury or sweet food? Bon apetit!!

Willow tree

This part of town is so vibrant in the spring and summer. Unfortunately, on a dull day like this, the streets are deserted, everything is still and the nature is still not awake yet. What's the weather like where you are?

Quite street

The day the is coming to a close, everybody is indoors preparing for dinner, the day ahead or settling in front of telly. I like walking in the evening or meeting with friends. And you?
