City on a grain of salt. Tuzla means a place of salt and it lays on top of the salt lake. It is suspected it has been there for around 7000 years as one of the oldest places in Europe.

A Penny for the Guy

My version of 'a penny for the guy'.

Real poverty is too serious for "penny for the guy", which is an entertainment for children.

Very dedicated to be playing in the snow ... Owen, it is sad to assume he is improvised. We don't make that same assumption of all street performers ... Also, if he is improvised he deserves some assistance for the attempt to make a living by performing ... Good post Jazzy.

i know it's hard to believe but this man chose to do this for a living, you can see him nearly every day on the street playing his accordion!

It's a tough way to make a living, but I have to admire him for continuing to do what he wants or needs to do to survive.

Denton, I wasn't assuming that the accordion player wasn't genuine, quite the opposite. For someone to be so dependent on the generosity of others for their livelihood that they'll risk their health in this way suggests a degree of economic desperation.

"Penny for the guy" is a form of begging by children trying to get money for fireworks. It's a game, it's not an effort to obtain the basics of subsistence. Jazzy, this man may be earning his livelihood in the way he chooses, we all have our own ways of living our life, but is it really his choice to be out playing in the snow? That's a genuine question - it may or may not be, images don't always tell the story we imagine.

The picture makes me sad and I hope he can make enough to make it worth his while to sit in the snow and play. A great human interest photo.
