City on a grain of salt. Tuzla means a place of salt and it lays on top of the salt lake. It is suspected it has been there for around 7000 years as one of the oldest places in Europe.

The photos on your site have made me cry. My mum was born in the Tuzlanski Pivara before WW2 and her family lived in apartments there because her father was some sort of manager. Mum has many photos especially one of herself as a little girl in front of the pivara. The war forced the family to migrate to Australia but my grandad is buried in Tuzla. Thank you for sharing your heritage through pictures and comments because it reminds me that eventhough Im Australian, a part of Bosnia lives in my heart too. Mum is so excited to see your wonderful photos. She is sure that her family died through the 1990's war as we have not heard from them since. So Mum is so pleased to see Tuzla recovering. You have given her peace. Please can I ask, is the Pivara still there? Mum remembers huge Linden trees and a Roman road in front [which have probably gone]. Your site reminds me that small acts like taking photos, in such a big planet, can mean so very much to another person across the world. Fala ljepo for bringing mamma her home..... Hi Ellyen,
thanks for your lovely feedback, it's nice to hear that people on the other continents are enjoying my TuzlaDP blog.
Pivnica is sill there, it was renovated and it's working as allways, Tuzlansko pivo is still very delicious :) and linden trees are nearly all gone.
Best regards to you and your mum.
